The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class Ross H. Terrien, United States Coast Guard, for heroic conduct as member of the crew of an amphibious plane attached to the Air Station, Miami, Florida, during the rescue of the two members of a lost aircraft 19 November 1943. When strong winds made it extremely hazardous for his plane to turn cross wind to reach one survivor, Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class Terrien courageously went over the side and swimming against the gigantic waves, carried a line to the weak and exhausted men, who were then hauled aboard.
