The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Everett Ross Bunch (NSN: 0-264310), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against enemy forces 24 September 1944. During this flight of 700 miles over enemy held territory in the vicinity of the Philippine Islands, he made three attacks on enemy merchant shipping at masthead level, completely disregarding intense anti-aircraft fire from concentrated shipping, escort vessels and shore batteries. With great daring, he pressed home his attacks which left a 7,000 ton tanker burning and seriously damaged. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
