    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Fireman First Class William C. Bull (NSN: 8187925), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action during the sinking of the U.S.S. BISMARCK SEA (CVE-95) on 21 February 1945. Although severely wounded, he carried a shipmate with a fractured pelvis from the hangar deck to an abandon ship station through fire and falling debris and in the vicinity of exploding ammunitions. His actions saved his shipmate’s life and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
