The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Aviation Electronics Technician Third Class James D. Hall, United States Navy, for heroism while serving as Avionic Technician at Strike Fighter Squadron 106 on 4 April 1997. While returning from a F/A-18 Fighter Detachment at Naval Air Station, Key West, Florida, Petty Officer Hall observed another Sailor, traveling in the car behind him, veer across the median and strike an oncoming vehicle. When he arrived at the scene, the shipmate was unconscious and her car was on fire. While others stood by fearing for their safety, he reached through the flames, released the seat belt, and pulled the victim to safety. Within minutes, the car was consumed by flames. By his courageous and prompt actions in the face of great personal risk, Petty Officer Hall prevented a high possibility for loss of life, thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and upholding the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
