The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class John William Bryant (NSN: 8901633), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the completion of twenty strikes or flights during which he has attacked the enemy or has met enemy opposition or has been actually subjected to enemy attack or in an active combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred, while serving with a squadron based aboard an escort carrier engaged in operations against the enemy at Okinawa Shima from 25 March 1945 to 29 April 1945.
