    June 10, 1943

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade “A” Parker Bryant (NSN: 0-194538), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the line of his profession as Executive Officer of the U.S.S. Patrol Craft FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY-SEVEN (PC-487), on 10 June 1943. When that ship, escorting a convoy of two ships in Aleutian waters, made contact with an enemy submarine, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bryant assisted the Commanding Officer in the conning of the ship so efficiently that, as a result of being one depth charged, twice rammed at the maximum speed of the PC, and hit by gunfire, the submarine was destroyed and sank stern first. After the attack, in which his ship suffered extensive damage as a result of the ramming of the enemy submarine, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bryant took personal charge of the damage control party, entering partially flooded compartments at the risk of his own life, shoring bulkheads and stopping leaks, making it possible for his ship to be brought safely to port. His conduct was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
