The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class William R. Brown (NSN: 8555172), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as radioman over Truk Lagoon on 26 March 1945, and an enemy airfield on southern Kyushu on 3 May 1945. His alert, skillful performance of duty contributed materially to the destruction of two luggers and three enemy planes, and extensive damage to barracks, radio and maintenance installations. His actions were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
