The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant, Junior Grade (MC) Walter Henry Brown (NSN: 0-361975), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Medical Officer aboard U.S.S. CLASTON during an enemy air attack off Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 1 November 1944. The attack left the vessel severely damaged, with serious injuries to personnel. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Brown, by his determination and efficiency provided the injured with the best of medical attention possible under such difficult operating conditions. His heroic conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
