The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Milton Harding Brown (NSN: 0-156812), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a pilot attached to a Navy Patrol Squadron operating in the Midway Islands area from 1 to 16 June 1944. Undeterred by fragmentary information, and despite extremely unfavorable weather on 16 July 1944, he carefully searched for and located a pilot down at sea. Skillfully maneuvering his plane into position he made an open sea landing and take-off in running, fifteen-foot swells, to effect a successful rescue. His alert presence of mind and outstanding airmanship were an inspiration to his entire squadron and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
