The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Chief Radioman John Cameron Brown (NSN: 2625826), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Pacific Area from 13 October 1944 to 15 November 1944. Aviation Chief Radioman Brown completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

Operating at extreme range from his carrier, he participated in an attack on major units of the enemy fleet in the vicinity of the Philippine Islands and performed his duties with coolness and efficiency despite the most intense anti-aircraft fire. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
