    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class John Cameron Brown (NSN: 2625826), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as a combat aircrewman in a carrier-based bombing plane on 25 October 1944. Operating at extreme range from his carrier, he participated in an attack on major units of the enemy fleet in the vicinity of the Philippine Islands and performed his duties with coolness and efficiency despite the most intense anti-aircraft fire. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Aviation Chief Radioman Brown completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.
