(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Marvin Miller Doolin (ASN: 33217831), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 337th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces near Maronola, Italy, on 21 and 22 May 1944. Private First Class Doolin killed two German soldiers, entered their positions, and knocked out three German machine gun nests. When his gun jammed, he covered the remaining enemy with his useless gun until help arrived. He then went on to kill at least two German officers and an undetermined number of enemy, and destroyed a German observation post. Private First Class Doolin’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 85th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
