The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Aviation Ordnanceman First Class Eugene Roger Brown (NSN: 2016225), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism in connection with operations against the enemy on 18 June 1944, in the vicinity of the Mariana Islands. As a flight deck Aviation Ordnanceman he ran immediately to a bomb which had been jarred loose from a landed airplane, grasped the rotating arming vanes of the already partially armed bomb, and thereby prevented full arming of this bomb and probable detonation with resultant loss of many lives. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
