The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Shipfitter Third Class George Brovak (NSN: 8151846), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism at Tinian Harbor in the Pacific on 1 January 1945, in rescuing an enlisted man from drowning. The man was accidentally struck on the head by a piece of falling metal during construction of docking facilities and, with his skill fractured, plunged unconscious into the water among large coral boulders. Seeing the accident and resulting injury to the man, he dove after him and assisted in making the recover under water and swam with him to safety. His courage and decisive action were an inspiration to all with whom he served and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
