The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class James R. Brooks, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as aircrewman of a Navy Search Bomber along the coast of Korea on 23 July and 25 July 1945. By his accurate gunfire and alert performance of duty in the face of enemy fire, he contributed effectively to destruction of an enemy transport plane, the sinking of three enemy ships, and serious damage to another vessel. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
