The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Seaman Second Class James H. Brock (NSN: 7221715), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism on 29 October 1944, during the operation against Peleliu Island. Seaman Second Class Brock, serving on an LST which had been broached by the heavy surf, noticed a landing craft off the seaward bow capsize and the embarked troops thrown into the sea. Seeing three of the men who were unable to swim being swept seaward by a strong current, he dove overboard despite the obvious dangers from the surf and succeeded in sustaining one of them until a rescue line was passed and he was brought aboard. His heroic action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
