Mack Britton was recognized by a Letter of Commendation for his heroism in assisting in the rescue of a drowning man, and subsequently awarded the Silver Live Saving Medal by the Treasury Department. In 1946 as a retired Coast Guard ALC, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for that action.
