The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Chief Yeoman Henry T. Brennan (NSN: 4007819), United States Navy, for heroism in the face of considerable danger to himself in fighting a huge gasoline fire resulting from an enemy air raid on Falmouth, Cornwall, England, during the early morning of 30 May 1944. Although the smoke and flames made a perfect target for further bombing which was expected at any moment, and there were unexploded bombs in the vicinity, Chief Brennan continued to fight the fire and to protect endangered property and lives throughout the night and until the fire was brought under control. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
