The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Ensign Gervis Stuart Brady (NSN: 0-281880), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy. On the afternoon of 27 October 1944, Motor Torpedo Boat FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE (PT-525), of which he was Executive Officer, and PT-523, while proceeding through San Juanico Strait, Philippine Islands, to conduct a patrol against enemy shipping were suddenly attacked by four enemy planes. Because of the extremely confining waters of the narrow straits the boats were unable to maneuver and protect themselves, and were subjected to a bombing attack and numerous strafing attacks. Despite the severe strafing attacks which were still in progress, he went aboard PT-523, which had been hit, and directed first aid to the wounded men. Throughout the entire action he conducted himself with the greatest coolness, judgment, and initiative. His leadership was an inspiration to all the men on both boats. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
