The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Harold G. Bradshaw, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the line of his profession while participating in an aerial flight as pilot of a U.S. Navy Torpedo Plane embarked in U.S.S. BOGUE (CVE-9), on 20 December 1943, when an enemy submarine was attacked and sunk. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bradshaw was a member of an attack group dispatched to the scene of contact when an enemy submarine was on the surface. Upon arrival at the scene, he immediately went into action, and with an extraordinary demonstration of airmanship made two successive drops on the enemy submarine. His second attack was extremely accurate, and as a result was instrumental in bringing about the final destruction of the enemy submarine. The action described above, in which the enemy submarine was sunk, reflects great credit upon the United States Naval Service.
