The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Bob O. Boyte, United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier based fighter plane in an attack against enemy air power and ground installations in the Tokyo area on 16 February 1945. He flew as a division leader’s wingman on a fighter sweep and personally destroyed three enemy planes in the air and damaged two others amid heavy aircraft and anti-aircraft fire. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
