The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class Alfed (Alfred) Guy Boykin, United States Naval Reserve, for heroism when a gasoline truck caught fire while fuel was being pumped from the truck to a Privateer aircraft on Airstrip Number Two at Clark Field, Luzon, Philippine Islands. At considerable risk of his life he, on his own initiative and although not the driver of the truck, manned the truck while it was ablaze and drove it to where it could no longer endanger the plane. His heroic actions and conduct prevented a serious explosion which might have caused damage to aircraft and casualties, and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
