The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Wrex Clayton Boyd (NSN: 6327492), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against enemy forces on 25 October 1944, off the East Coast of Samar Island. As crewman of a carrier-based bomber plane, he took part in a successful attack upon heavy surface units of the Japanese Fleet. When his plane was attacked by enemy fighters he manned his machine gun and held off the hostile interceptors until friendly fighters arrived and drove them away. After his pilot had dropped his bombs and was retiring through the enemy fleet, he heavily strafed enemy ships as practicable. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
