The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class St. Delifield Boyd (NSN: 6699396), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism at the risk of his own life in rescuing a civilian employee from contact with high power electric lines at the Naval Air Station, Barber’s Point, Territory of Hawaii, on 8 May 1943. Upon noting that the employee, on top of the boom of a back hoe, had fouled the high tension wires and lost consciousness, he, without regard to his own life safety, ascended the boom, pulled the man free, and carried him down, thereby saving his life. His courage throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
