    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Edward Bourgeault (Borgeault) (NSN: 0-116500), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as co-pilot of a United States Navy Patrol Plane on 12 July 1943, while protecting a convoy from bombing attack by two enemy Focke-Wulf bombers. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bourgeault was co-pilot of a relatively slow and under-armed plane that broke up several air attacks on the convoy his plane was escorting. He assisted the pilot in skillful and aggressive attacks that prevented the enemy from reaching their objectives. During these attacks many hits were obtained on the enemy planes. The enthusiasm, aggressiveness and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bourgeault were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
