The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Seaman Second Class Kenneth Hart Borosund (ASN: 6640040), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism during the fast carrier task force strike against Kyushu Island, Japan, on 18 March 1945. In spite of cold and rough seas, he voluntarily dove off the bow of his ship, swam to the aid of an extremely exhausted and nearly unconscious aviator and towed him against rough seas to the side of the ship. Although himself near complete exhaustion after reaching his ship, he aided in getting the distressed aviator in a stokes stretcher and hauled aboard. His courage, skill and disregard for his own safety were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
