    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class Richard Robert Boris, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. As First Mechanic of a Navy Search Bomber, during the period from 5 January 1945 to 21 January 1945, he participated in many hazardous search and reconnaissance missions deep in enemy territory. On 5 January 1945, while on one of these patrols he contributed to the destruction of two enemy aircraft, in aerial combat. On 8 January 1945, when an enemy plane was sighted he was creditably accounted for himself at his battle station as it was also destroyed. On 21 January 1945, by his skill and proficiency, he materially aided in destroying another plane in aerial combat. His courage and skill under fire, aggressiveness, and deep devotion to duty were in accordance with the highest traditions of the United States.
