    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Torpedoman Guy H. Boos (NSN: 3371292), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Chief-of-the-Boat of the U.S.S. STURGEON (SS-187), during the TENTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 8 April 1944 to 26 May 1944. His efficiency and outstanding ability were of invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting aggressive attacks upon enemy shipping which resulted in the sinking of three enemy ships totaling 15,400 tons. His courage and inspiring leadership in the face of heavy gunfire from enemy shore batteries during rescue operations greatly assisted his ship in avoiding severe damage and completing this mission so efficiently that three United States Naval Aviators were successfully rescued. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to all with whom he served and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
