    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class Donavon Edward Booke (NSN: 8901648), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while attached to the aviation unit on board the U.S.S. PHOENIX from February to June 1945. As a radioman and combat aircrewman of an OS2N King Fisher Aircraft, he participated in 20 flights over enemy held territory at Corregidor, Sambo Anga, Cebu City, Philippine Islands, Tarakan Islands, Reunei Bay, Borneo. During these missions he was of considerable assisted in spotting naval gunfire on enemy shore installations and thereby contributed to their destruction. Photographs which he took of enemy areas were of substantial value in assessing the extent of damage to enemy facilities. His outstanding performance of his duties was in accordance with the highest traditions of the Navy of the United States.
