    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Ernest F. Bonjour (NSN: 0-267950), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Fire Control Coordinator of the U.S.S. PINTADO (SS-387) during the THIRD War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy controlled waters from 9 October 1944 to 1 January 1945. His ability in this key position of the fire control party was of immeasurable assistance to the Commanding Officer in the sinking of four enemy ships totaling 21,300 tons, and damaging one aircraft carrier of 28,000 tons. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
