    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Edward S. Bomar, Jr. (NSN: 5757917), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Southwest Pacific Area. During the period from 18 December 1944 to 26 February 1945, he participated in twenty flights in an active combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective and enemy aircraft patrols usually occur. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Edward S. Bomar, Jr. (NSN: 5757917), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. On 5 March 1945, while serving as Gunner of a Navy Liberator based at Clark Field, Luzon, he contributed to the destruction of two TOPSY’s type Japanese aircraft, while on armed combat patrol. Both of the Japanese aircraft were hit and forced to crash into the water, in flames, one hundred and forty miles east of Formosa. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
