    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Radioman Second Class Vergil T. Bolton, Jr. (NSN: 3604718), United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight. On 10 December 1944, Aviation Radioman Second Class Bolton, serving as aviation radioman of a Navy bomber on patrol deep in enemy territory with courage, tenacity, and skill, directly contributed to the destruction of three enemy aircraft. In combat under fire he expertly and efficiently carried out his assigned task at his battle station, continuing even when his plane was damaged beyond control. His deep devotion to duty during long combat hours; and the skill, courage and aggressiveness with which he helped press home this attack were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
