    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Radioman Third Class Charles Edward Boley (NSN: 7558593), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Gunner and Radioman in a carrier-based torpedo plane assigned to attack a Japanese airfield in the Ryukyu Islands on 23 April 1945. In the face of grave danger and intense and accurate enemy anti-aircraft fire, and at the risk of his life, he performed his duties courageously and skillfully, thus materially assisting his pilot in scoring numerous hits on enemy installations. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
