    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Lloyd Lee Bolar (NSN: 0-306155), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier-based Torpedo Bomber plane on 25 October 1944. In the face of heavy and very accurate naval anti-aircraft fire, he participated in an aerial glide bombing attack against units of the enemy fleet, and scored a near hit which contributed to the damage and subsequent destruction of an enemy carrier. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Lloyd Lee Bolar (NSN: 0-306155), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a carrier-based Torpedo Bomber plane on 24 October 1944. In the face of heavy and very accurate anti-aircraft fire, he participated in a damaging aerial torpedo attack against units of the enemy fleet. As a result of his attack three direct hits were scored upon an enemy battleship. His courage and skill were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
