    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Robert Anderson Bloomfield (NSN: 0-278781), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier-based fighter plane assigned to target combat air patrol in the vicinity of Okinawa Jima on 28 May 1945. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bloomfield shot down two enemy aircraft, thereby materially assisting in preventing the enemy from attacking our forces. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Robert Anderson Bloomfield (NSN: 0-278781), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Pacific Area from 11 November 1943 to 19 November 1943. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bloomfield completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Robert Anderson Bloomfield (NSN: 0-278781), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy in the vicinity of Yonago and Miho, Honshu, Japan, on 25 July 1945. As pilot of a carrier-based fighter plane he shot down a twin-engine enemy aircraft. In the face of anti-aircraft fire he destroyed two aircraft and a gasoline truck on the airfield. He sank a merchant vessel with two rocket hits after retiring from the attack on the airfields. His initiative, skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
