    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Commander David Blakeslee (NSN: 0-85553), United States Naval Reserve, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander of a Task Unit of minesweepers during the Balikpapan, Borneo, amphibious landing operation during World War II. He assisted in the preparation of complicated minesweeping plans prior to the operation and directed their execution under enemy fire. He displayed great skill, initiative, and courage and contributed material assistance to the success of the operation. His conduct throughout was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Lieutenant Commander Blakeslee is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
