    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Norman A. Bishop (NSN: 0-363320), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Formosa, Philippine Islands, French Indo-China, Hainan, Nansei Shoto, Tokyo, Iwo Jima, Kyushu and Kobe. As pilot of a carrier-based Fighter Plane during the period 7 January 1945 to 5 April 1945 he participated in twenty strikes against enemy shipping, airfields and installations, inflicting extensive damage. His skill and courage were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Norman A. Bishop (NSN: 0-363320), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Okinawa Gunto on 6 April 1945. As pilot of a carrier-based Fighter Plane flying Combat Air Patrol in support of operations on Okinawa Gunto he shot down two enemy aircraft and probably shot down an additional enemy airplane, thereby materially assisting in effecting the mission of protection for our forces from airborne attack. His skill and courage were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
