(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Henri Paul Gustave Marie de Gonfreville, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Department Chief of Staff, Headquarters, II French Corps (South France), French Army, in action against enemy forces in France during operations that culminated in the capture of Marseilles, Toulon, and the advance of the Allied Armies into the Vosges, in 1944. Lieutenant Colonel de Gonfreville’s outstanding accomplishments, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the Allied Nations.
