The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Casimir Lucian Bigos, United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity during an enemy air attack west of Okinawa Shima, Nansei Shoto, on the morning of 11 May 1945. As Commanding Officer of the LCS(L)(3) 88, while directing his ship from the bridge, he sustained a fatal head wound from the fragments of a bomb which hit and damaged his ship. Several days preceding this action he wrote his immediate superior in command stating that he and the ship had not done much, that it was annoying to him and further requested that he and his ship be assigned some very active duty when possible. His initiative, enthusiasm and unswerving devotion to duty prior to and throughout this action were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
