    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Radar Technician First Class Henry T. Biehl (NSN: 6284489), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry, intrepidity and coolness in action against the enemy during the FIRST War Patrol of the U.S.S. CREVALLE (SS-291) in the period from 27 October 1943 to 7 December 1943, and for his skilled and tireless devotion to the maintenance of equipment assigned him for upkeep during this patrol. As battle radar operator he rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer and materially contributed to the success of his ship which was credited with the sinking of four enemy ships, including an auxiliary aircraft carrier, and the damaging of another for a total tonnage of 35,455 tons. He worked long and grueling hours to insure that the radar equipment would be in operating condition and thereby materially contributed to the sinking of two enemy ships which would not have been possible had this equipment not been working. His skill in operating the equipment and supplying essential data to the fire control party in action was only equaled by his coolness and devotion to duty. By hi actions on this patrol he demonstrated his gallantry and professional skill which were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Chief Radar Technician Henry Tudor Biehl (NSN: 6284489), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties in the U.S.S. CREVALLE (SS-291), during a war patrol of that Submarine in World War II. As Radar Operator, his high degree of skill and outstanding ability in the operation of the radar equipment, and accurate information furnished his Commanding Officer contributed materially to the execution of successful attacks which resulted in the sinking and damaging of enemy ships totaling approximately 1,500 tons. In addition, a special mission was successfully completed. His coolness and high devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel in evading enemy countermeasures. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
