The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Edgar Albon Bevis (NSN: 0-158132), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Section Leader of a carrier-based Bombing Plane on 13 October 1944. In an attack on a heavily-fortified enemy harbor near Japan, despite extremely adverse weather conditions and in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire, he flew through the clouds and pressed home his attack at low altitude with utter disregard of his own safety, and with the result that severe damage was inflicted on enemy shipping and harbor installations. His conduct was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
