The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Floyd J. Bertoglio (NSN: 0-129961), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in operations against Japanese shipping in the vicinity of Formosa on 15 January 1945. As pilot of a carrier-based Torpedo Plane he made a successful bombing attack upon an enemy destroyer in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire from ship and shore, scoring a damaging hit and probably sinking the destroyer. His courage and disregard for his own safety were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Floyd J. Bertoglio (NSN: 0-129961), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights in operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Formosa, Philippine Islands, French Indo-China, Nansei Shoto, Volcano Islands, Kyushu and Honshu. As pilot of a carrier-based Torpedo Plane during the period 3 January to 5 April 1945, he participated in twenty strikes against enemy shipping, airfields and installations, inflicting extensive damage. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
