    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Robert Francis Bergeron (NSN: 0-114507), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as a Division Leader in a carrier-based Bombing Squadron on 13 October 1944. In an attack on a heavily-fortified enemy harbor near Japan, despite extremely adverse weather conditions and in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire, he flew through the clouds and pressed home his attack at low altitude with the result that severe damage was inflicted on enemy shipping and harbor installations. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Robert Francis Bergeron (NSN: 0-114507), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the combat area of the Pacific from 18 October 1944 to 15 December 1944. Lieutenant Bergeron completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Robert Francis Bergeron (NSN: 0-114507), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in operations against Japanese shipping in Manila Bay on 25 November 1944. As a Division Leader in a carrier-based Bombing Squadron he executed a brilliant attack in the face of most intense anti-aircraft fire, with the result that he scored a direct hit on a large enemy tanker, and his division inflicted further serious damage His courage and skill in carrying out this difficult attack were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
