The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Ensign Daniel Ralph Berardinelli (NSN: 0-383389), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy. As pilot of a carrier-based torpedo bomber on 18 July 1945, he participated in an attack against enemy shipping in the vicinity of Maizuru, Honshu. In the face of concentrated and accurate anti-aircraft fire he skillfully pressed home his attack to carry out his assigned mission and materially contributed to the damage inflicted by our forces. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
