    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class Theodore Berak (NSN: 8087831), United States Naval Reserve, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as gunner and aircrewman of a Navy Search Bomber over Korea on 24 June 1945 and Shanghai on 15 July 1945. Despite intense enemy anti-aircraft fire, he performed his duties skillfully and courageously. His outstanding performance of duty contributed directly to destruction of a locomotive, a parked fighter plane, machine gun emplacement, a five thousand ton merchant vessel, and extensive damage to buildings of an oil refinery. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
