The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Commander Henry S. Bennett, United States Naval Reserve, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Medical Intelligence Officer in a Marine Amphibious Corps for a period of twenty-two months. During the time he participated in the Guam Operation, June – August 1944, and the Okinawa Operation, April – June 1945. His thorough knowledge, patient and thorough manner furnished valuable assistance to our medical officers. Lieutenant Commander Bennett on innumerable occasions fearlessly worked in fire. His courage and devotion to duty contributed much valuable and accurate information about diseases occurring in enemy held areas. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Lieutenant Commander Bennett is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
