    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class George M. Bennett (NSN: 3935155), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Radioman of a heavy Bomber Plane in Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED ONE (VB-101) during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands Area from January to September 1943. Participating in patrol, reconnaissance and attack missions and in numerous strikes against the enemy during this period, Aviation Radioman First Class Bennett contributed materially to the infliction of extensive damage on the Japanese despite hostile aerial opposition and anti-aircraft fire. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave hazards were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
