    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Lieutenant Luther Reese Johnson (NSN: 0-82982), United States Navy, for meritorious service in connection with operations against the enemy in the U.S.S. SEADRAGON (SS-194), during the SEVENTH War Patrol of that Submarine in the Marshall Islands area from 18 July 1943 to 30 August 1943. As Diving Officer and an Engineering Officer, his careful and precise control of depth, outstanding ability, leadership, and supervision of engineering personnel in the upkeep and operation of the machinery in his department, assisted his Commanding Officer considerably in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the damaging of 23,000 tons of enemy shipping. His coolness of his vessel in evading severe enemy countermeasures and his conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship, and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
