The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander [then Lieutenant] Alexander William Belikow (NSN: 0-98322), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Scout seaplane during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands Area from 6 July to 9 August 1943. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Lieutenant Commander Belikow participated in combat air patrols and search missions. A skilled and daring airman, he competently accomplished his assignments in an area where enemy patrols were likely to e present thereby contributing materially to the success of his squadron in the execution of these important missions. By his courage, fortitude and outstanding devotion to duty, Lieutenant Commander Belikow upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
