The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Aircrew Survival Equipmentman Airman Apprentice Cody M. Larson, United States Naval Reserve, for heroism while serving at Patrol Squadron NINETY (VP-90), Naval Air Station, Glenview, Illinois, on 19 June 1993. While on liberty at the Schwoegler Park Towne Bowling Alley, Airman Apprentice Larson witnessed a man pointing a gun at some patrons with whom he had been arguing earlier. He took immediate action at great personal risk, grabbing the gun, jamming his thumb between the hammer and frame. With the aid of other individuals, Airman Apprentice Larson wrestled the man to the ground and was instrumental in disarming him. He then helped to detain him until the police arrived. By his courageous and prompt action in the face of great personal risk, Airman Apprentice Larson took control of a volatile situation, assuredly saving lives; thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and upholding the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
